Arubas "Hudishibana", also called the California Lighthouse was built of natural stones, chalk and cement between 1914 and 1916 on the Northwest point of Aruba. California was the name of a steamship which was wrecked one night in September, 1891. This accident occurred because there was no lighthouse or other means of warning the ship that they were too near the coast of Aruba. In spite of modern systems, the lighthouse is still in operation, but now mainly for the local fishermen and has become an important tourist attraction as it offers many beautiful views together with a breathtaking sunset. La Trattoria el faro Blanco Italian Restaurant at the foot of the California Lighthouse, is located in a typical family home, surrounded by the best nature, culture and history offers.
